2011-2012 ART DOCENT PROGRAM GOALS:
- To bring art to each classroom on a regular basis.
- To enable students to become familiar with the elements of art and expand their experiences with art media.
- To develop students' artistic skills as they learn about the art process and develop positive feelings of self-esteem.
- To establish the legitimacy of art as a critical part of the basic curriculum.
- To expand children's ability to form definitions of their visual world.
- To familiarize students with important artists and artwork from throughout history.
- To examine elements of art that the children can apply to their own creative endeavors.
- To acquaint the children with varied media as a means of expression.
- To use volunteer docents from the community as facilitators.
- To provide a resource for teachers.
