Welcome 2011/2012 Art Docents

We are so excited to have you on our Art Docent Team for the 2011/2012 school year. We want to welcome you to excitining world of teaching art to students at Northeast Tacoma Elementary.
We are building on our strong team of art docents from last year with the addition of several new art docents. Many of our new docents were art volunteers this past school year and we are thrilled to have them aboard.
I am new to blogging and hope that this will end up being a good resource for us to receive information and provide feedback this year in our art docent program.

2011/2012 Art Docent Program Goals

                                       NORTHEAST TACOMA ELEMENTARY
                                  2011-2012 ART DOCENT PROGRAM GOALS:

• To bring art to each classroom on a regular basis.
• To enable students to become familiar with the elements of art and expand their experiences with art media.
• To develop students' artistic skills as they learn about the art process and develop positive feelings of self-esteem.
• To establish the legitimacy of art as a critical part of the basic curriculum.
• To expand children's ability to form definitions of their visual world.
• To familiarize students with important artists and artwork from throughout history.
• To examine elements of art that the children can apply to their own creative endeavors.
• To acquaint the children with varied media as a means of expression.
• To use volunteer docents from the community as facilitators.
• To provide a resource for teachers.
